The CLTS approach has been adopted as the national sanitation strategy of Timor-Leste and the Department of Health of Timor-Leste is implementing it by the name of PAKSI (Planu Aksaun Komunidade Saneamentu no Ijiene). CLTS Foundation Global conducted a five-day national level training workshop this March at Bobonaro district, which was participated by more than 15 organisations ( INGOs and local NGOs) and government agencies.
Since then, the district has been making steady progress and all the stakeholders have committed themselves to make Bobonaro the first open defecation free (ODF) district in the country. There have been encouraging updates from the facilitators who are currently working with the community and they have shared a few photographs which speak volumes about the power of collective local action in the second youngest democracy in the world.
